MORE TAXPAYERS’ MONEY WASTED IN THE WRONG PLACE
Home > Latest Media Releases > Paterson Electorate > MORE TAXPAYERS’ MONEY WASTED IN THE WRONG PLACE
5 Jan 2010   Bob Baldwin

Bob Baldwin, Member for Paterson has today called on Kevin Rudd to actually stop and listen to the people of Forster.

Housing NSW intends to build a medium density block of 20 units at Kenrose Street, funded by the Rudd Labor Government’s wasteful Economic Stimulus Package.

‘This development is clearly planned for the wrong spot. It does not fit with the surrounding low density housing, does not have enough parking, and will create traffic hassles,’ said Mr Baldwin.

‘To make matters worse, the cynical and sneaky State Labor Government gave local residents less than a month to make a complaint. This time period was during the Christmas holidays, when many people were either away from their homes or busy preparing to host family and friends.’

Mr Baldwin’s office has been inundated with letters from residents, angry their taxpayer dollars have been spent on such an inappropriate development.

‘I am urging Kevin Rudd to finally stop and listen to locals about where he is spending their money. It is about time Labor started to consult with residents before making rash decisions on their behalf,’ said Mr Baldwin.

‘Council has had no say in this development and Member for Myall Lakes John Turner is also fighting against it on behalf of residents. Clearly, both the state and federal Labor Governments believe it is acceptable to steamroll the people of Forster.’

Mr Baldwin said he agreed there is a need for more public housing, but that governments need to take more responsibility for targeting areas which are appropriate for this style of development.

‘Here we see Kevin Rudd trying to help state Labor, which cannot even afford to pay for its own infrastructure through money-mismanagement.

‘Since Kevin Rudd has been forced to step in to prop up Labor’s coffers, he should also step in to ensure this development is moved to an appropriate area.’
