COALITION OPPOSES
MANDATORY INTERNET FILTERING
Bob Baldwin, Member for Paterson has welcomed the announcement that a re-elected Coalition Government will oppose mandatory internet filtering.
“People young and old have repeatedly told me they do not want Labor’s flawed filter,” said Mr Baldwin.
“The Gillard Labor Government’s proposed filter will do nothing to stop the online content most people find offensive.
“Worse still, the filter would create a false sense of security for parents whose children regularly use the world wide web,” said Mr Baldwin.
Mr Baldwin said that the only thing Labor has managed to do in three years in Government is come up with an unworkable and ineffective plan.
“Rather than turning Australia into a nanny-state, a Coalition Government will provide parents with practical and effective measures to enhance online safety and protect their children from damaging content,” said Mr Baldwin.
“Experts say that most predatory risks to children lurk in those areas of the online world that are largely immune to filtering, such as chat rooms, email and peer-to-peer networks.
“That is why we will not support Labor’s flawed filter.
“We will not interfere with the online experience of law abiding Australians,” said Mr Baldwin.
