COALITION LAUNCHES AIRCRAFT NOISE POLICY
FOR RAAF BASE WILLIAMTOWN
Bob Baldwin, Member for Paterson today announced the Coalition’s policy to reduce the impact of aircraft noise on Paterson residents.
“As the Member for Paterson and the Shadow Minister for Defence Science, Personnel and Assisting Shadow Minister for Defence, I would like to take this opportunity to assure all Paterson residents that the policies I have announced today are a commitment to reducing the impact of aircraft noise on our community,” said Mr Baldwin.
Mr Baldwin said that the Coalition has committed to:
- Installing a second Instrument Landing System (ILS) which will result in more aircraft approaching from the sea rather than across Brandy Hill and Raymond Terrace;
- Extending the runway towards the sand hills which will move the noise footprint and remove/reduce the effect of the ANEF from Brandy Hill, Raymond Terrace and Medowie without shifting the noise problem onto other residences;
- Repealing and replacing the 2025 ANEF so that the above measures can be incorporated into new noise contour maps; and
- Establish an Independent Audit Committee to fully examine all proposals that can further mitigate the noise effect on our community.
Mr Baldwin said that he would also continue working with Port Stephens Council to implement the same ‘grandfathering’ policy as used by Ipswich Council in dealing with aircraft noise at RAAF Base Amberley.
“I will continue to listen to residents’ concerns but believe it equally important that an action plan be adopted, and that is exactly what I have announced today.
Mr Baldwin said that all the Gillard Labor Government had done was delegate the matter to the most junior Defence portfolio minister, Mike Kelly, who hadn’t even bothered to come to Paterson to speak to residents directly, despite Mr Arneman insisting he had the ear of the Government.
“All Mr Arneman has done is promote ideas, purely designed to get him through the election,” said Mr Baldwin.
“To make matters worse, his “solutions” revolve around talk fests and delay, which would only create more uncertainty and anxiety for residents.
“What I have done is work with the community and experts on developing real solutions which will be implemented if the Coalition wins government on the twenty first of August.”
