LABOR PRIORITIES OUT OF WHACK
AS TELEVISION SCREENS LEFT BLACK
Bob Baldwin, Member for Paterson said the Gillard Labor Government had failed Paterson residents by refusing to take action to improve local television reception.
“Regional and rural residents of South Australia can now access a subsidised satellite service to get clear television reception, yet Labor seems happy to leave the people of Paterson in the dark until 2012,” said Mr Baldwin.
“Well I am here to remind Julia Gillard that delay is unacceptable and that we will not rest until local viewers get what they deserve.
“I call on the Gillard Labor Government to immediately start installing this technology in local homes, as residents should not have to wait two years for something that is available now.
“Quality television reception is crucial for the transmission of news, weather warnings and local advertising, not to mention entertainment, and that is why residents needed it yesterday – not in two years,” said Mr Baldwin.
Mr Baldwin said that he had been contacted by hundreds of local residents experiencing increase reception problems owing to the hot weather.
He also noted that many of those residents had purchased expensive digital televisions at the Gillard Labor Government’s insistence, only to discover they could not deliver clear, uninterrupted reception.
“The Gillard Labor Government is spending millions of dollars asking people to get “digital ready” when it should instead be spending the money to actually deliver clear reception in Paterson,” said Mr Baldwin.
“I will continue to yell loud and clear on this issue until the Gillard Labor Government delivers what it has promised.”
