Coalition to deliver real action on Paterson roads

Roads across the Paterson electorate would be given a $71 million boost under a Coalition Government.

Bob Baldwin, Member for Paterson and Warren Truss, Shadow Minister for Trade, Transport and Local Government announced the extensive investment during a tour of local roads today.

The $71 million dollar package includes:

  • $20M to upgrade the  Lakes Way
  • $20M to build passing lanes on the Bucketts Way
  • $6M to start the construction of the much-needed  Nelson Bay to Fingal Bay Bypass
  • $20M  to upgrade Main Road 301 between Raymond Terrace and Dungog
  • $5M to fix  Main Road 7778 Gresford Road (Paterson/Vacy to Gresford)

“These upgrades would deliver real benefits for the people of Paterson and make local roads safer,” said Mr Truss.

“Unlike the Federal and State Labor Governments, the Coalition is taking direct action to address a vital regional infrastructure issue.

“A Coalition Government will deliver infrastructure responsibly and prudently, to provide real social and economic benefits for communities and users,” said Mr Truss.

Mr Baldwin noted the importanceof roads in regional areas such as Paterson.

“Safe and quality roads are critical to our viability,” said Mr Baldwin.

“Local people rely on roads to access entertainment, education, health and other services and that is why they are always a priority of mine.

“When you fix a road, you create a highway to opportunity.

“I have been listening to and working with the local community and mayors, identifying areas of concern that require funding.

“Today's package announcement directly addresses those concerns raised by the community.

“Importantly, by providing guaranteed funding over a number of years, local councils are better able to plan upgrades and seek State Government co-operative funding.”
