GILLARD MISLEADS PARLIAMENT -
ANEF2025 NOT LIFTED
Bob Baldwin, Member for Paterson said Prime Minister Julia Gillard had broken a promise to the people of Port Stephens and misled the Australian Parliament, after failing to lift the 2025ANEF by the end of 2010.
“During the election the Gillard Labor Government distributed a media release promising to, ‘review and replace the current 2025 ANEF with a new ANEF to be issued before the end of the year’ (Joint release 02/08/10),” said Mr Baldwin.
“Julia Gillard then stood on the floor of Parliament and recommitted to that promise when she said, ‘I am very happy to stand by local promises we made’ (Hansard 24/11/10).
“Despite these assurances from the Prime Minister herself, the original ANEF2025 for RAAF Base Williamtown still remains in place.
“Gillard has mislead the people of Port Stephens and I will ensure she is held accountable – this is not a trivial matter, people’s homes are at stake,” said Mr Baldwin.
The current ANEF2025 does not take into account revisions to the noise mapping, which are contained in the ANEC2025. Therefore Port Stephens Council may still use those guidelines when assessing development applications.
“It is important that local, state and federal governments operate using the most up-to-date information,” said Mr Baldwin.
“The Gillard Labor Government promised to lift the ANEF2025 by the end of 2010: by failing to do so it has deceived local people, misled the Parliament and unfairly burdened local homeowners.”
