COALITION COMMITS TO COMBAT CRIME
Bob Baldwin, Member for Paterson has announced that a Coalition Government will spend $400,000 to install Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras across the Paterson electorate.
“The Coalition is committed to tackling crime and making sure that people feel safe both in their own homes and in the wider comunity,” said Mr Baldwin.
“That’s why a Coalition Government will provide $400,000 to install and monitor CCTV cameras across the electorate of Paterson.
“These cameras will help police crack down on vandalism and anti‐social behaviour,” said Mr Baldwin.
The investment is in addition to $33 million which a Coalition Government will spend to establish a National Violent Gangs Database; and $95 million to establish a National Violent Gangs Squad with at least 200 additional investigators.
“I am committed to taking real action to stop vandalism, graffiti and petty crime in our community,” said Mr Baldwin.
“In 2007 I successfully fought to have CCTV cameras placed in vandalism hotspots in Nelson Bay and this has been successful in cmbating graffiti and other crime in the area.
“Now business owners and other members of the community have told me they too would like security cameras and I have listened,” said Mr Baldwin.
Port Stephens East Ward Councillor Sally Dover has welcomed the announcement.
“I’m very excited that Bob Baldwin is expanding the funding for CCTV,” said Cr Dover.
“The funding Bob has already provided has had a great impact on decreasing vandalism and graffiti in the Nelson Bay CBD.
“Additional funding from a Coalition Government will help us to extend CCTV to Yacaaba Street and Donald Street.
“I have been working with the Nelson Bay Chamber of Commerce and they are 100% behind this great initiative,” said Cr Dover.
